There are a variety of Special Education classroom programs for handicapped students in the South Lyon Community Schools. A local school district must make such programs available if they are needed by handicapped students. South Lyon Community Schools provides services through in-district and out of district facilities. In some instances, we contract with another school district or agency to provide the service. By law, programs are required for persons identified as:

  • Autistic Impaired

  • Mildly Cognitive Impaired

  • Moderately Cognitive Impaired

  • Severely Cognitive Impaired

  • Severely Multiply Impaired

  • Emotionally Impaired

  • Hearing Impaired

  • Learning Disabled

  • Physically Impaired

  • Otherwise Health Impaired

  • Early Childhood Developmentally Delayed

  • Speech and Language Impaired

  • Visually Impaired

  • Traumatic Brain Injury

In addition to the programs above, ancillary and other related services are available, including:

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Physical Therapy

  • Preprimary Services

  • Psychological Services

  • School Social Worker Services

  • Transportation

The following instructional services are also available:

  • Homebound Teachers

  • Early Childhood Developmental Delay Teachers

  • Teacher Consultants

  • Teachers of the Speech and Language Impaired

Not all programs and services will be provided for each student. An Individualized Educational Planning Committee (IEPC) determines which program and/or services are appropriate for each student.

Further questions can be directed to Ms. Linda M. Raye, Director of Special Services, (248) 573-8220.
